What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is made out of titanium and resembles a screw. Unlike other forms of tooth replacement, it is meant to interface directly with the jaw; once it has been inserted into the bone and has joined with the surrounding tissue, it can provide support for an appropriate prosthesis. With dental implants acting as roots, you can rest assured that your new teeth won’t slip the way traditional dentures sometimes can.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process
- Initial Consultation: To get started, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with our team. We’ll make sure that you’re able to get dental implants and explain any preliminary work that needs to be completed.
- Dental Implant Surgery: We’re able to personally handle the process of dental implant placement. The gums will be opened so that the posts can be inserted into predetermined areas of the jaw.
- Osseointegration/Abutment: The mouth will be given time to heal after the surgery. Through a process called osseointegration, the implant posts will eventually fuse with the jawbone. Then metal connector pieces called abutments will be attached to each post.
- Delivery of the Final Restoration: Once the final crown, bridge, or denture has been made, the abutments will be used to anchor it to the implant posts and complete your new smile.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Since dental implants look and feel natural, they can have a positive impact on your overall confidence. Additionally, having artificial roots for your new teeth comes with many advantages, such as boosting your chewing power or preventing bone loss in your jaw. On top of all of that, dental implants can potentially last for decades with only minimal maintenance, making it less likely that you’ll need to pay to replace them.
Who Dental Implants Can Help
We’ll check your oral and overall health as well as the state of your jawbone to confirm whether you’re able to get dental implants. Additionally, we’ll confirm how many implants are needed and the type of prosthesis they’ll support based on the number of teeth missing:
Missing One Tooth
Naturally, you only need one dental implant post if you have lost a single tooth. The post will eventually support a crown that matches the appearance of your natural teeth. Implant posts can be a good alternative to a traditional dental bridge because they don’t force us to make changes to your remaining teeth’s enamel.
Missing Multiple Teeth
With two dental implant posts and a dental bridge, it is possible to replace three or more teeth in a row all at once. On top of that, a partial denture can be secured to dental implants in order to replace teeth that have been lost in different parts of the mouth.
Missing All Teeth
Even an entire row of missing teeth can be replaced from the roots up with dental implants. About four to eight dental implant posts can support a full denture. You have the option of either getting a removable implant denture that can be taken out at any time or a fixed implant denture that always stays in your mouth.
Understanding the Cost of Dental Implants
Some of the factors that can influence the cost of your dental implants include the need for preliminary treatments, the materials used, the number of dental implants required, and whether you’re getting a crown, a bridge, or a denture. Needless to say, with so many variables to take into account, we will only be able to give you an estimate once we have had a chance to examine your mouth.
