Without a doubt, you should get emergency dental care when you have intense tooth pain. There’s a good chance you’re dealing with a risky oral infection! Still, you can also take steps to manage your problem while you wait for proper treatment. Your Frisco dentist can even share some easy home remedies for severe toothaches with you! To that end, here are four quick ways to relieve an aching tooth from the comfort of your home.

Over-the-Counter Medication

As you might expect, many store-bought medications can ease toothaches. Consider getting one from your local pharmacy, supermarket, or drugstore.

In particular, there are several over-the-counter medications you could try. One example is acetaminophen, better known as Tylenol. On the other hand, you may want to get ibuprofen (Advil) for highly effective pain relief.  Certain gels can also be applied directly to your tooth to ease aches.

An Ice Pack

Another way to manage your toothache is to apply an ice pack. By doing so, you’d see a fast reduction in your discomfort levels.

Don’t forget, ice can numb all sorts of bodily pain. That’s because it slows down nerve impulses and reduces blood flow to the aching area. So, wrap some ice in a towel and apply it to the cheek nearest your pained tooth. Keeping the pack in place for 15 minutes at a time should bring much-needed relief.

Peppermint Tea Bags

Most people see peppermint tea as a way to reduce stress. However, its tea bags are also great at relieving toothaches!

You see, peppermint tea has various pain-reducing qualities. Its varied flavonoids can reduce inflammation and aches, while its analgesic properties also reduce discomfort. Given these facts, you can numb tooth pain by placing used peppermint tea bags near the affected area. You could also cool the area by placing a chilled tea bag next to your tooth.

Vanilla Extract

As a last resort, you can also rely on vanilla extract to ease toothaches. This solution – normally used as a dessert ingredient – happens to have pain-relieving powers.

Vanilla extract has several components that can numb pain. For example, it contains alcohol that can both disinfect your tooth and ease its ache. This extract’s antioxidant properties also make it an effective healer. Just remember to use the real thing, not an imitation; the latter won’t help.

While they can’t address your core problem, home remedies for severe toothaches help you manage your pain. Note that as you wait for your final treatment!
